ORIGIN: Planet Solara – a warm and mysterious world somewhere beyond the North Midlands, where temperatures rarely fall below ‘perfectly comfortable’.
Soo’s musical mission has taken her through numerous musical galaxies, performing both original material and covers with a variety of bands before joining the Escape Pod crew. Classically trained as a singer, she developed her vocal technique long before joining the Pod, giving her a formidable range of musical navigation systems.
A trained dancer as well as a vocalist, Soo also brings a natural sense of rhythm, movement and stage presence to the flight deck – making her rather difficult to keep in one place once the music starts.
Soo has been part of several notable missions with DC Fontana, alongside fellow Escape Pod crew members Mark Mortimer, Charlotte Rose and James Stanley. She also provided backing vocals when the band accompanied legendary British singer, Don Fardon, originally of The Sorrows.
She is currently a key member of Mark Mortimer’s, The Know Escape, contributing both lead and backing vocals. Soo features on the critically acclaimed ‘Running Through Chelsea’, the Know Escape album featuring legendary British psychedelic singer-songwriter, Peter Daltrey on lead vocals.
Soo isn’t restricted to vocal frequencies. When Escape Pod takes to the stage, she also adds live percussion to the mission – while being fully qualified to take control of guitar or keyboards should the need arise.
There is also a slightly mysterious side to Soo’s navigation system. She has a fondness for the mystical, a particular affection for animals and a well-documented weakness for dogs. Whether this has anything to do with her ability to sense the musical atmosphere before anyone else is currently under investigation by mission control.
Being originally from Planet Solara, Soo is not particularly well adapted to terrestrial cold. In fact, she is known to regard anything below ‘quite warm’ as a hostile planetary environment. Escape Pod therefore operates a strict minimum temperature protocol whenever Soo is aboard.
Her combination of powerful vocals, classical training, musical versatility, dance experience and unmistakable glamour makes Soo rather more than just another passenger on the flight. She is one of the crew members responsible for making sure the Pod arrives at its destination with the audience fully energised and the dance floor safely in orbit.
CREW FUNCTION: Providing the voice, rhythm, movement and a little unexplained cosmic energy required to keep Escape Pod on course.
KNOWN AS: Space Siren
SPECIAL ABILITY: Able to transmit powerful vocal signals across several musical galaxies without the need for external amplification. Also capable of switching from vocals to percussion, guitar or keyboards without leaving the flight deck.
